  • About First Aid Step by Step

Step by Step are specialist providers of emergency first aid and basic life support training for both adults and children. Our Founder, Angela Townley, is a professionally qualified registered nurse with over fifteen years of practical experience in Emergency Medicine and as a cardiac specialist in hospitals in Manchester, Preston, London and Sydney (Australia).

Whilst on holiday with her extended family, Angela's youngest child suffered a seizure which was witnessed by her two eldest daughters and family members, none of whom knew how to manage a seizure. Back in the UK, several similar incidents were reported on television and in the press, and showed that very few people would have known what to do. According to the British Heart Foundation, new research shows more than nine in ten adults (95%) would not be able to save lives in first aid emergencies. This inspired Angela to launch her business, and to share her knowledge and skills with other parents and care service providers.

Our mission is to raise awareness; to provide practical-hands on training in a safe environment; and to ensure that our clients are confident that they could safely step in and calmly provide potentially life-saving interventions until the Emergency Services arrive.

We truly believe that knowing a little can save a lot of lives.

Testimonial from Belmont School, Mill Hill

“Angela has worked with us at Belmont Mill Hill Preparatory School over the last year (since September 2016) providing Mini medic classes for our pupils. She has worked with Year groups 3, 4, 6 and 8 and has planned and delivered mini medics lessons for small groups of up to 10 pupils and to much larger groups (up to 26 pupils). She has a huge amount of passion for the subject of mini medic and really took her time to get to know our pupils and how she could best support them. The pupils enjoyed her lessons and got a lot out of them, especially in the small group sessions. I would be happy to recommend Angela to any other school wishing to introduce Mini medics into their curriculum”.

Currently being taught: Belmont Junior School (January 2017 - 2019). Highgate Junior School (taught in June 2018, 2019, 2022).

I have attended many courses in the past and none have been as thorough or informative. They have a wonderful way of delivering the course, that is fun, relaxed and above all clear. You come away from it with clarity and a sense of empowerment and confidence. Together with their expert knowledge they are calm, reassuring and approachable you feel you can ask them any questions in the safe environment they create. I would highly recommend this course to everyone, Naomi owner of Highgate Pilates.

Thank you so much for the fantastic First Aid Training you provided to Grief Encounter. It was all a great reminder of how important it is that we know what to do in certain situations, as you never know what might happen around you, at any given time. I know for sure, that all those from our team that attended, really enjoyed the day and appreciated us organising such an important training session. We are working with children & families, who have gone through a very traumatic time and stress or anxiety can lead to situations that would require knowing what you taught us yesterday. It was a great day and would highly recommend it to anyone. Thanks again.

Red Robin Nannies had the pleasure of attending our yearly paediatric refreshers course on Saturday with First Aid Step By Step.
All I can say is that Red Robin Nannies left feeling super confident and equipped when practicing the basic life saving techniques taught by Angela and Emma. This course was the most informative first aid course I personally have completed. I thoroughly enjoyed it due to the amazing team and the comfortable environment. But most importantly, we left feeling very assured that we now know what to do in a case of an emergency whilst caring for our charges.

If you want a super relaxed day where learning about infant first aid is actually fun then this is course for you! Not only is there tea and coffee a plenty, you are welcomed with fresh pastries in the morning and delicious cake in the afternoon! Emma and Angela really know their stuff and work brilliantly together. They had us all laughing and learning in equal measure! I feel really equipped to help save a child’s life should I need to and there’s even lots of little quotes shared to help you remember the really important stuff. Great value. Well done and thanks again.’

The team at First Aid Step by Step were incredibly informative and helpful when they visited our team at Lauderdale House. They were extremely knowledgeable and tailored the morning with us to suit the needs of the group. The explanations, demonstrations and activities were accessible, and the team ensured that everyone in the group understood different first aid procedures. Angela and Emma created a relaxed atmosphere around some difficult topics, making it easy to ask questions and making the session a comfortable learning environment. Our staff were extremely grateful for the course - the work Step by Step are doing is so vital in informing people of life-saving skills, and something we as a team did not have enough awareness of. Thank you so much!
